The FREIA instrument is a neutron reflectometer optimised for soft condensed matter and life sciences that is currently being developed by UKRI as an in-kind collaboration with ESS ERIC which will be located in Lund, Sweden. More details on Freia can be found on the ESS website: https://europeanspallationsource.se/instruments/freia .
FREIA is designed to study surfaces that are horizontal, meaning that it can study what happens at free liquid surfaces as well as solid surfaces. FREIA can do most measurements without moving the sample, and there is no other instrument in the world that can do this.
The subject of work is the supply of the Freia neutron guide, which transports 2-21Å neutrons from the target to the sample position 22.8 m away. The guide is elliptical in the vertical plane, and forms a 3-channel s-bend in the horizontal plane, with vertical silicon vanes. The supermirror coating is formed on metallic substrate and varies along the length of the guide.
The requirement consists of Section 2, Section 3, Section 4, Section 5 and Section 6 of the Freia Instrument Neutron Guide as described in UK SBS PR20001 Specification.
